The Chairman of Ilorin East Local Government, Hon. Lukman Olayinka Garba, has publicly defended his recent actions regarding the halting of the renovation of the Awodi Primary Health Care Centre, Gambari Ward I — a project spearheaded by the Senator representing Kwara Central, Mallam Saliu Mustapha.
Speaking during a radio interview in Ilorin, Hon. Garba explained that his decision to stop the project was borne out of loyalty to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, whom he referred to as his "boss" and "benefactor."
“My boss’s enemy is my enemy,” Garba stated. “It is clear to the public that Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and Senator Saliu Mustapha are not on good terms. They may be from the same Senatorial District, but it is obvious they are not in a cordial relationship. I may not know the details of their disagreement, but what is clear to me is that the Governor and Senator are not aligned politically.”
When asked about the root of the rift between the two political leaders, Garba declined to delve into specifics, stating, “It is none of my business. However, I must make my position known. While the Senator is from my local government, the Governor is the number one citizen of the state — and he is the one God used to install me in office. I will always stand by him.”
The chairman’s comments have sparked mixed reactions, with some questioning the politicization of developmental projects, while others view it as a reflection of the ongoing power dynamics within Kwara State’s political landscape.
